Of Lanterns, Cherry Blossoms and A Chinese New Year

Well, I am feeling full of lights recently. I can't help but be fascinated by the way that my Mr Pink captures light. I actually have another set of film of Mr Pink capturing lights at an amusement park which I should be (hopefully) blogging about soon. ;)

Anyways, I took this set recently at a mall right after Chinese New Year. I used to pass by this set of decorations everyday after work and everyday I used to tell husband that I really desperately want to take Mr Pink out for a spin with these beautiful light trees. I mean seriously, the pink ones look so much like cherry blossoms. So here's to that, enjoy my blurry and (hopefully) dreamy photos of lights! ;)

I do really think though that I might need to invest in a proper tripod (you know that ones that actually reach the waist) so that my night pictures are not so blurry. But anyways, I looooove the effects of Mr Pink so far. *sigh* Hope you loved the pictures as much as I do. ;)

A Serving of Truth

Well, I'll certainly be lying if I say that husband and I never fight. That we never sometimes feel so angry that we actually have the urge to break something. The truth of the matter is that it happens. Sometimes it happens so often, that we can't help but think: 'What the hell is going on here?' or even 'I am so tired of dealing with this shit!'

I know and follow many bloggers who were already married and also those who were single and are now married. Somehow, save for a few (and when I say a few, I mean countable with my fingers) I find that most of these married female bloggers don't really talk about the realities of being married. When I read their blog, I find that I always end up thinking; 'Wow, their life seems so perfect together. Don't they ever fight? Am I doing something wrong?'

It seems that their life is so picturesque; so much so that it makes me believe that their lives are almost living, breathing scenes from all those rom-coms that I enjoy watching so much. And these couples are the main actors! Again, I almost always ask myself, 'What am I doing wrong? Do I not love my husband enough? Does my husband not love me enough? What is lacking here that my life doesn't seem to be as perfect as these couples?'

And today is when it hit me: it is impossible for any couple (regardless married or not) to not have an argument or a heated discussion or even a full blown fight on an issue! Especially if they both feel strongly enough about it! And besides, wouldn't life be so incredibly dull if that was the case? There would be no making up, and how I love the feeling of making up after having a bad moment with husband. When he takes me in his arms, I feel as though the entire day - all the crappiness, all the pain, all the frustration - has been completely wiped out with that one single gesture; with that one single hug. All the emptiness just melts away. And then, you feel that this is life; this is how you should feel, this is a complete life. This is my version of perfect.

So what? So what if perfect is a bit battered around the edges, stained with some tears, coloured with so much laughter and caressed oh-so-lovingly? Wouldn't that be better than just plain ol' perfect?

Yes, I do think that sometimes I might not be that great of a wife to my husband, but thank the Lord (and I really do thank him everyday since) that I am his wife and that he loves me enough to want to argue, fight with me. That he is passionate (no matter what drives him to be) when he is with me and for me. And for that, I can never be grateful enough and I probably could never love him enough for that.

I do understand that most bloggers don't want to spread negativity in the blogosphere, but that doesn't mean that we should omit the truth altogether. Married life is a challenge no doubt, but the bigger question here is how we deal with the challenges and how we rise up after the fall.

I don't have a clever one liner to end this post with, but I do have to say this; I am so very grateful with all that I have. And I am so very happy for everything these happy couples have. May we all be blessed with continuos love.

Wanting To Be Inspired

...Sumire fell in love for the first time in life. An intense love, a veritable tornado sweeping across the plains  - flattening everything in its path, tossing things up in the air, ripping them to shreds, crushing them to bits. The tornado's intensity doesn't abate for a second as it blasts across the ocean, laying waste to Angkor Wat, incinerating an Indian jungle, tigers and everything, transforming itself into a Persian desert sandstorm, burying an exotic fortress city under a sea of sand. In short, a love of truly monumental proportions...
Sputnik Sweetheart, Haruki Murakami

Oh my God! Flipping to the first page and setting my eyes on the paragraph above just gave me goosebumps. It's been quite sometime since I last read something that has affected me this way. I read out this paragraph to husband and even my colleague (poor thing), because I just couldn't get over the beauty of the language. True, it's actually translated from Japanese to English; so I can only imagine the the real intensity and the flair of the actual text. *sigh*

This bit of text has really ignited the longing in me to write something of my own. I, simply, want to be a writer like Murakami. I want to weave dreams and symphonies with words of my own and let others experience the goosebumps. I want to inspire others. I wish to be inspired.

Can't wait to discover more literary gold in Murakami's words! ;)

Of Blacks & Whites

So, I finally finally developed all six rolls of my 120mm Diana F+ film. Don't worry but I'm gona post everything here one shot! That will make this such a heavy post I kid you not! Every roll I got 12 frames except for the black and white roll; which was my fault essentially I didn't take off the lens caps *sweatdrop*. Such a rookie mistake, I know but hey that's what you get when you are using a toy camera! ;)

Anyways I took this one and only roll of black and white film, my first roll of black and white film actually, to Fana's wedding to see what will happen. I was feeling a bit experimental! ;) Anyways, I love the results that came out of it. And the fact that the film wasn't a total waste, like the first roll that I ever had. On to the film! XD

I'm really happy with the way the the film turned out. However, what I'm really unhappy of is the fact that the price of the Kodak 120mm film is skyrocketing! And that brings a proverbial hole in my pocket. *sad*

I will be slowly posting photos from the other rolls. Have a good day!

The Zebras Went to the Circus

It was a random day where I decided to wear high heels, animal print and sequins to work. Honestly, work has been pretty hectic and from today onwards, it will be meetings almost everyday (for the next four weeks) which means that no more jeans and t-shirt type of lazy days; in a nutshell it sucks to be me. But on the other hand, it's definitely time to explore my wardrobe and see what I can come up with. Of course, I will definitely try to take as many outfit photos that I can in my continue in my feeble attempt to document my (possibly lack of) style.

Anyways on to this outfit, I basically fell in love with the skirt as soon as I saw it. I mean seriously, zebra print with actuals zebras print; nothing short of amazing! So I paired it with my sequined jacket and my red heels, just to add a pop of color. The bag is just the everyday bag that I carry to work, I really do use and abuse my bag! Oh well, on with the pictures! ;)

Oh zebras and accordion pleats, how I love you so! This skirt has made me want to get more maxi skirts! I want more, need more! This is exactly like my maxi dress obsession, where so far I've already gotten four and have thankfully stopped! Also, I do think one of the reasons that I've stopped with the maxi dresses is that most people think I'm preggers whenever I wear it! *sweatdrop* So anyways, onwards with my new obsession! Muahahahahahaha!

Happy Monday everybody! XD

Fana's Wedding

Two weeks ago, one of my close friends from uni, Fana, finally tied the knot. She was such a beautiful bride on that day. First the solemnization (they were both clad in white) and then the reception (in which they were both dressed in grey). It was both held on the same day so that explains why husband and I were wearing the same clothes. Anyways, they looked amazing together, and with that husband and I officially became the old married couple. LOL. But it was a beautiful reception, loads of whimsical details. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get the details on the digital camera. Hopefully, the lomo film turns out okay. ;)

And in May, Fenin will be tying the knot too. I'm such a bag full of happy, tearful joy of emotions that we are all heading towards being happily married (is that too presumptuous? LOL).

Fajitas Night

After successfully making quesadillas, I decided to try making fajitas instead for dinner yesterday. I made beef (for me) and chicken (for husband) fajitas. The sole reason I even attempted making two kinds of meat was that the marinade was exactly the same for both. Yeah, I know lazy me but whatever; I even got the meat from my in-laws! Didn't even have to go to the wet market to buy it. LOL. Yeap, even the parents-in-law indulge me; they love me like that! ;) So anyways, I used this recipe from Videojug.com. I seriously love Videojug.com. It's totally my go to for recipes that are simple and fast. And the fact that they have videos are of course a welcome.

So this recipe turned out great, except for the tiny fact that when I ate the beef on its own the taste was a bit too cinnamon-y for me. The next time I might however, lessen the cinnamon and increase the amount of cayenne paper powder a bit. The downside is that I need to marinate the meat for at least 30 minutes before cooking so I don't think I can make it during a working day unless I am planning to eat at 10 at night; *sigh* but there are always weekends, right? Also not pictured are the sides that I served it with: wholegrain and garlic tortillas, store bought sour cream, homemade pico de gallo and cheddar cheese. NOMS! No guacamole though, too difficult to find and when found way too expensive. *yikes*

Any recipe suggestions out there? But it has to be something that is easy to whip up. Looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Film vs Digital

When I went to Penang during Chinese New Year, I didn't take my Mr. Pink down with me. It was as simple as I forgot to take it with me. When in Penang, husband was pretty much intent on going to the botanical gardens for a run. Since I didn't have my running gear with me, I armed myself with our digital camera I decided to fool around while husband was sweating it out. I found this function 'Toy Camera' effect and I thought, 'Hey, this could be fun'. I experimented a whole lot with this function, and honestly I am in love with it because: I don't have to worry about film, shutter speed or even worry about if my film would come up blank! But at the end of the day I realised I took a bunch of photos that were, well photos. No dreaminess, no light leaks, no unpredictability. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing unexpected. However, I have to say there were some photos that I feel were really good. The ones of the Indian temple is by far my favourite. I love that the colours are warmer and that the surfaces don't just seem flat; there is a more textured feel to the photos.

Let me know what you think and do tell what would your stand be. Film? Or faking it?

Bright Hot Pink

It's a long weekend for us here, unfortunately the last one for a very long time. :( Anyways, for the past few weekends, I have been doing nothing but attending weddings. Dear Lord, a WHOLE LOT of people are getting married! It's great, but it totally takes up the entire day. But today, I decided to make the best out of it. Brought a change of clothes in the car and right after we were done with attending the reception I changed as fast as I could. It was a great day with husband; a bit of shopping at a local boutique and a coffee date with husband. In a nutshell, I am a happy camper. And so is husband with a repeat telecast of me making quesadillas for dinner. Aaaaand it was spectacular, if I do say so myself! ;)

This is my take on colour blocking: black shoes, blue jeans, bright pink blouse, and a purple clutch. A bit understated but that's how I like it anyways. Might try something slightly bolder in the future, who knows? ;)

Happy weekend everyone!

Dinner Tonight

Tonight I made a simple quesadillas and pico de gallo for dinner. After weeks of pestering husband to take me to this particular store to get tortilla wraps, I finally made it! I used a simple recipe from Nigella Lawson's website. I absolutely love her! She (and Jamie Oliver) make cooking look so easy and yummy that it basically can convince anyone to cook. The cleaning, however is a whole different story. And tonight was one of those nights. I made such a huge mess trying to flip the tortillas (sandwiched with fillings), that I even burnt my fingers (again). Sometimes I am such a rookie when it comes to cooking. But anyways, the end result was really yummy and I do say so myself (and seconded by husband!)

Happy Thursday y'all!
